World Record Sanibel Stoop

Yesterday was an exciting day on Sanibel Island.  Over 700 shell lovers gathered on the beach to set a Guinness Book of World Record for the most people doing the Sanibel Stoop at the same time.

The Sanibel Stoop is when you bend over to grab a shell.  The Sanibel Stoop is a familiar sight all up and down the Sanibel shoreline.  At all times of the day or night you can see people on the beach with their butts pointed skyward while they snatch up prized shells.

To read more about the Stoop record and to see some fun pictures, head over to i Love Shelling and read Pam's account of the day.  It looks like it was a lot of fun.  You might see some familiar faces from my blog as well.  Captain Brian from Observations on the Water was there, Karen from The Essential Beachcomber was there and Rhonda from Shellbelles Tiki Hut was there.  I'm just sad I didn't get to go as well!

Be sure to stop by their blogs later on as I'm sure they will have lots of pictures posted.

  1. Awesome! Congrats to the new record holders. I love shelling. We always come home from the shore with shells.

  2. Awww Kim! We missed you too. Next year we're going for the phooning record.

  4. How cool! I will have to go over and take a look!!

  5. My parents used to have a home on Sanibel. I loved going there.

  6. I also would have loved to be there! I was stooping somewhere else!

  7. Hi Kim, I'm home from Karen's and I had to head over and tell you again that you were missed! I didn't take part in the stoop record — I weighed my options and since I now live an hour from the beach I chose the beach over the parking lot. Trust me though, Karen did not let me forget that she now holds a world record, lol.

We had a GREAT weekend, wish you were there! Hugs

  8. :( I wish you could have been there.

  9. I wish I could've been there too!! :( Maybe one day, I'll be involved in some of these cool things....after all, that's what Retirement in for....Right?!

    1. Yes - you'll probably be involved in all kinds of cool stuff!! How many days are left?

Thanks for taking the time to stop by. Please leave a message because I love to hear from you!
