Last year I did a review on Michael Buble's new Christmas CD, simply titled Christmas. You can go back and read that review here.
This CD quickly became one of my favorites and it was the first one I played tonight while making our first batch of Christmas cookies - sugar cookies, in case you're interested.
Another CD that I really enjoy is Christmas With Dino. I mean, come on, it's Dean Martin. Dean was the ultimate in cool, and when he sang, his voice was always smooth as whiskey and I can just picture the smile on his face. Best track? "Baby, it's Cold Outside" with Martina McBride.
Are you familiar with "Sugarland?" Jennifer Nettles has one of the best voices in country music and this album "Gold and Green" does not disappoint. Her voice is so clear and pure on "Oh Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel" that I could cry. My favorite selection tho is "Maybe Baby." It showcases her singer partner "Kristian Bush" and he really needs to sing lead a little more often.
And the holiday season would not be complete without "A Cherry, Cherry Christmas" by Neil Diamond. What can I say? I love the man and his music! Every...single...song.... Sigh......
Another all-time favorite is Mariah Carey's "Merry Christmas" album. Her "All I Want for Christmas is You" is one of the best Christmas songs ever written. Unfortunately, my copy is an ancient cassette tape and I no longer have anything to play it on. Plus, I wonder if it would even work anymore? At any rate, I'm on the look out for the CD version and as soon as I find one on sale, I will snatch it up. I can't have Christmas without my Mariah.
So there you have it, my 5 favorite Christmas albums. I have other holiday CD's, but these are the 5 I listen to constantly. Who do you like? Which ones do you recommend?
I'm going to have to get some of these! One of my favorites is my Elvis Christmas music/songs. I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head, but boy can Elvis sing Blue Christmas! My radio in my car stays tuned to WKTK during the holidays. From Thanksgiving Day until the New Year, they play ONLY Christmas music!!!! Drives my kids crazy lol!ReplyDelete
You're right - that's a good one and I don't have it. How can that be??Delete
Now that sounds like a radio station I'd LOVE! :o)Delete
As of last year this cd became one of my favorites:
"Funny looking Angels" from Smith & Burrows.
These are more the non traditional kind of Christmas songs but I love them.
And of course, being a great Paul McCartney fan his "Wonderful Christmas time" is my all time favorite.
Hi Ans - glad you stopped by! I've never heard of Smith & Burrows, so I will have to check out this CD. And Paul McCartney is always a good choice.Delete
I need to get some new Christmas music! I still listen to the Phil Spector Christmas album, and to Dolly Parton's 'Hard Candy Christmas,' love "All I Want For Christmas Is You' and "Santa Baby," but my collection could use some freshioning!ReplyDelete
Oh, "Hard Candy Christmas" is such a good one. I do have that!Delete
I love the Micheal Buble CD. My kids got it for me last year. I am already listening to Christmas music. We have a radio station that starts in Nov. so I am blasting it early at least that is what the kids say. I love it though. Would love the Dino one. Old school is my favorite.ReplyDelete
I think you'd like the Dino one. I guarantee he will have you snapping your fingers.Delete
I have an old CD called "Rock and Roll Christmas." It's my favorite - there are songs from Elton John, the Kinks, and my favorite, "Christmas Wrapping" by the Waitresses. I also love Mannheim Steamroller.ReplyDelete
So many great suggestions today - I have to take a list and go visit the music section of my library!Delete
I discovered the Michael Bubblé cd last year thanks to you and promptly went and bought it! So I'll have to check out your other recommendations this year 'cause you've got good taste! :o)ReplyDelete
I'd say of my current Christmas cds my absolute favourite is one called "3 Stars at Christmas" with songs by the unbeatable Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole! Their voices are amazing, and when it comes to Christmas I just love the classics! ;o)
One of my non-traditional favourites is the album "Abriendo Puertas" by Gloria Estefan. It's all in Spanish, the words to the songs are beautiful (about Christmas, love, family etc.) and have got some fabulous rythms! You should check it out! :o)
How did I never hear of "3 Stars at Christmas?" 3 of the best singers ever! And I will check out the Gloria Estefan one as well. Thanks!Delete
I'm going to write these down and put some in my wish list. I listen to Elvis and some CDs that have a variety of music. I haven't bought a new Christmas CD...since Josh Groban a few years ago! Sweet hugs!ReplyDelete
