LeClaire's Buffalo Bill Museum

A couple of weeks ago I was telling you about our trip to Antique Archaeology in LeClaire, Iowa.  While we were there we stopped at the Buffalo Bill Museum.  Apparently, Buffalo Bill was born in the area and it was a very nice museum that was packed with interesting things that had to do with Buffalo Bill and the LeClaire area.

This was the first time I remember seeing a glass target ball and it was much larger that I imagined it would be.  Can you picture them using these in the Buffalo Bill Shows and shards of glass exploding everywhere?

Mom had fun playing with the Comptometer.  Who knows what a comptometer is?  I had no idea, but it was actually the first calculator.  Not that mom is old or anything, but she was trained on a comptometer when she was in high school.

My grandmother was a book keeper and I remember seeing her use a machine very similar to this...

I kept myself busy playing dress -up, phone operator, and school girl....

Mostly I just flirted with the cute boy who was sitting next to me.  Come to think of it, that's what I did in grade school too!

I adore old maps like this one....

This was a really interesting display about how they made buttons out of the shells from the river...

I like walking around displays like this and looking at all the old stuff.  I really like those copper tubs...

I  have several Norman Rockwell prints and there were a couple in this display that I would have liked to grab....

See that square green Lucky Strike tin in front?  I have one exactly like it...

And I always enjoy seeing anything that had to do with the Civil War....

The next section of the museum was dedicated to The Lone Star Steamer ship.  But we'll leave that for another day.

  1. Thanks for sharing-- very interesting! I'm a Buffalo Bill fan. I have one of those copper tubs from my grandmother-in-law. It was left in her garage when she moved for anyone to take so guess who took?! I must admit it's sitting in my basement. I don't know what to do with it but like it.

    1. Oh, you have to drag that out and do something with it. That's too beautiful to be sitting in a basement. I'll want to see pictures when you do!
