Book Preview - The Appalachian Trail: Celebrating America's Hiking Trail

Have you ever hiked either the entire AT or a section of it?  Do you sit and dream of hiking the trail from end to end?  Have you read books by hikers who have completed the trail?  If you've been following my blog, then you are also familiar with Standing Bear who has just completed thru hiking the entire 2184 miles and provided us with weekly updates.  If you enjoy gorgeous scenic photos and love to be outdoors, then you are going to want to check this out!

In celebration of the Appalachian Trails 75th anniversary, a new book is coming out called "The Appalachian Trail: Celebrating America's Hiking Trail."  Due to be released on September 25th 2012, the book will document the history and the stories behind the creation of the trail.  From its inception until its completion, you will read about the fascinating people who dedicated not only hours, but years of their lives to making the dream a reality.

Spanning 14 states, the AT takes hikers from forests and meadows, to skyline drives and mountain peaks.  The trail means something different for each person who steps foot on its path and everyone who hikes it will experience the journey in a different way.

I was provided an advance copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.  When I removed the book from its package, I was impressed by its hefty size. It's 10.4" x 10.3" and 1 1/2" thick.  Not only does it contain 336 pages of history, documents and essays, but the book has over 300 gorgeous photos. I mean take-your-breath-away beautiful pictures!  It is a very nicely put together book.

I started reading it last night and as soon as I'm finished, I'll post my review.   The Appalachian Trail: Celebrating America's Hiking Trail has been published with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and you can visit their website for more information on the AT and on purchasing the book.

Excuse while I get back to my book - it's hard to put it down.
