The bluegill are still biting and I'm going to show you the set up I used tonight.
First, there is my rod....
It's a Browning rod that I've had for quite some time. It's a nice, light action rod and the thing I like best about it is that it's only 5 ft. long. It's very easy for me to manuver around. I also like the butt on it because it's a short butt and much easier for my small hands to hold. I would actually prefer an even slightly shorter butt, except I haven't been able to find one. I don't know if anyone even makes one. (No butt jokes please!)
You can just ignore the chipped nail polish - it's because I've been catching so many fish....
The reel I use is a Daiwa SS 700. I love the way this reel works. It's a light reel, small and works very smoothly. It can take a lot of abuse and it has held up beautifully.
The lures I'm using today are Shelton's Phyllis Blue Gill Bugs. They come in a variety of colors, but I usually prefer the black ones with either a black or white leg....
I like to attach a live wax worm to further entice the blue gill. Doesn't that look yummy?
Today I was fishing off of the dock. Here's my set up. 2 folding chairs with backs on them. After an hour or 2 of fishing, believe me, I appreciate the back on the chair. I have my 5 gallon bucket that I use for a table to place my bait on. I usually have a towel for my hands too....
I also have my Plano tackle box filled with all my goodies and a waterproof bag for my camera and my wallet...
And finally I have my fish basket to hold ALL the fish I catch!
Today my friend Donna and I just sat on the dock, threw our lines out in to about 5 ft. of water and let that lure sink to the bottom. We have a nice little area where the bottom of the lake is slightly sandy with some gravel and there are some nice brush piles scattered about. Then we would slowly reel a little, let it sit still for a few seconds, reel a little, and let it sit. It drove the blue gill crazy and before you know it, we had a basket full of fish, all around this size....
So there you go. Easy as pie. It was a fun evening.
