Poor Neglected Chair

A couple of weeks ago when we were at the lake house, Louie was out on the gator and came home with this poor, neglected chair that had been discarded.  We are not shy about grabbing tossed away items and re-purposing them.  Especially chairs or other furniture.  I am in love with fixing up chairs.  I don't know why, but when I see one at the curb I will look wistfully at it, craning my head around until Louie sighs loudly and then turns around and goes back for it.  It's a sickness, I know.

I adore wicker furniture but refuse to pay the price for new, so when Louie brought home this little diamond in the rough, Chablis and I jumped on it.  One of the seat supports was broken, all 4 legs were cracked and it was pretty dirty.

The first thing we did was scrub it with a wire brush and hot, soapy water and bleach.  We let it sit out in the hot sun to dry all afternoon.  We got some wood and nails and fixed the seat support and legs and then wrapped the legs with black tape for added strength...

We rummaged around in the garage until we found some boat rope and we twisted it around all 4 legs.  Finally, we gave the entire chair several coats of brown paint.....

Not bad!  Now all we need to do is make up a cute seat cushion and it's ready to use.  Not bad for a free chair.  We used 3 cans of spray paint, that cost about $ 6.00 each and everything else that we used was stuff we had in the garage.  How can you beat that??
