Visiting Colorado Oct 2015

2 weeks ago Chablis and I flew out to Colorado for my nephews wedding.  It was only a 5 day trip but we managed to cram a lot of activity into the short time we had.  Traveling Snoopy tagged along.  He loves Colorado.  He remembers our great day hiking on St. Mary's Glacier a couple of years ago.

I love it when we get close to Denver and we can start to see the mountains in the distance....

If you've never been to the Denver airport, you are in for an experience.  It's a huge airport and very spread out.  Once you get off the plane you can take a people mover to the end of the gates.  Then you get on a train that takes you to the baggage area.  We usually don't check bags and just take a carry-on and a backpack.  I cannot stand waiting for my luggage.  But on this trip our plane from Chicago to Denver was a very small plane and before we boarded they asked for volunteers to check their bags - for free.   The only thing I hate about a carry-on bag is trying to fling it up into the overhead racks.  I'm very tiny and it's hard for me to get my bag up over my head half the time.  So we decided to check our bags this trip.  Did I mention it was free?

Anyway, we stood there watching the baggage carousel go round and round.  Chablis' bag came almost immediately.  We waited as the carousel continued to spin around... without my bag.  Suddenly the carousel stopped.  I had a moment of panic thinking that was it and my suitcase was lost in baggage hell.  So we started walking around the carousel and discovered the reason the carousel had stopped.  A bag, my bag, was jammed in the chute up at the top of the carousel.  We stood there for a minute, looking at each other, and since nobody from the airport seemed too concerned, I jumped on the carousel, climbed to the top and wrestled with my bag for 5 minutes until I was finally able to rip it free.  Chablis was horrified that I climbed up there, but I thought it was kind of funny.

Once we had our suitcases we then had to go outside and find the shuttle bus to take us to the car rental buildings, where we then had to stand in line and wait for our car.  Actually, it wasn't all that bad.  It took us an hour from the time we got off the plane until we pulled out of the lot in our rental car.  And Denver really does have a beautiful and clean airport.  Just be prepared for a planes, trains and shuttle bus kind of thing.

By then we were starving so we stopped at a Chick Fil-a for a quick lunch before heading into Littleton.  Chablis was thrilled because Chick Fil-a is her favorite fast food restaurant.

First stop was my sisters house to visit with everyone for an hour before we headed over to our hotel.  Then for dinner we went to a great sushi restaurant named Okinawa.  Check out the huge roll we got.....

Plus some pot stickers....

And a giant plate of fried rice.  It was one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever eaten at and it was more food than the 2 of us could finish.

Afterwards we stopped and grabbed a couple of geocaches.  Chablis did a lot of eye rolling but since I was driving she didn't have a choice.  Then we went and crashed for the night at the hotel...

Stay tuned, more to come....

    1. I am lucky to have Chablis because my husband hates to fly and really doesn't care for traveling. I don't know what I'd do without her.

I can't believe you tried arm wrestling that baggage carousel; I just wish Chablis had scored a video!

    1. LOL - I'm kind of surprised she didn't but then again, she was horrified. However, you'd think she would be used to my antics by now.

    1. Chablis tolerates my geocaching at best. But I do entice her with the promise of food.
