I was recently cleaning out some cabinets and I found 4 old kitchen placemats that I haven't looked at in who knows how long. I picked them up and was just about to toss them in the trash when a light bulb went off in my head. Hey, why couldn't I make pot holders out of these? The place mats were made out of a double thickness fabric and they were actually still in really good condition....
I dragged out my portable sewing machine and got to work ......
First I dug around in my scrap fabric box and quickly sewed 8 short pieces to be used as pot holder loops....
Then I cut each place mat in half, folded each cut piece in half and sewed them around the edges, inserting a loop as I went along. Before I knew it I had 8 brand new pot holders. What do you think??
Now I guess I'll be looking for old place mats at thrift stores so I can make some more of these.
