What is it?

Ok folks, I have a question.   My sister found this at an estate sale and we have no idea what it is.  Any idea?

It's made of brass and stands 4" high and has a 3" diameter...

It says "LUSO" and is made in Portugal....

I can't even begin to guess what it is.

Help me out!

**UPDATE - Thanks for all the interesting guesses, but I think my friend Della over on FB had the best idea - an antique ink pot.   What do you think?

  2. Even after checking eBay for LUSO souvineers, I'm stumped! All's I can imagine is a candle holder that at day's end one can tip upside down to extinguish.

  3. Could it be copper, not brass? I found this sugar bowl from an expresso set or coffee set on etsy.https://www.etsy.com/listing/513570500/antique-douro-b-m-copper-espresso?ref=market

  6. Hi Kim- very cool little mid-century modern container. The pointy tip is just the little knob :) At least that's my 2 cents (from an avid MCM collector)

  7. I think I agree that the pointy tip just looks like a decorative knob. The first thing I thought of was the containers people kept on the top of the stove for lard. Interesting! Hugs!

    1. Thanks a great idea - but I think it's too small for that.

  8. I did a google search and I'm wondering if it is part of a canister set. Didn't really see anything else like it!
