The Magic Rod

We've named Chablis' pink rod "The Magic Rod."

Some of you may remember that we had a fishing rod custom made for Chablis for her graduation present.  If you missed that post, you can go back and read about it here.

She couldn't wait to get to Kentucky and try it out.  We had barely pulled into the driveway before she and Kyle dragged out the little boat and headed into the bay in search of blue gill...

She's thrilled with her new rod!  Like I said Magic!!

If you're interested in having a rod custom made, I can recommend Ed over at The Four Season Angler.  I just can't promise it will be a magic rod!

  1. If I ever don't owe a million dollars in medical debt I'm ordering one of Ed's special rods!!

So the Blue Gill look "skinny" to me. Is there fish to eat after it has been gutted? How do you all eat these? Grilled, deep fried???

I haven't actually caught and gutted a fish in quite some time...we seem to get lucky and get gifted halibut and salmon. I'd love to try you different fish (personally, I love grayling, but it is only catch and release around here).

    1. Almost always we fry them. Blue gill are small, especially compared to halibut or salmon and each fillet is good for a couple of bites. We typically fry 20 of them for 4 of us and we have more than enough when paired with fried potatoes and mac and cheese.

  2. The rod may be magic....but I think she also inherited her mom and dad's fishing skills/luck!

    1. Ha! She does not clean them - that's dads job. But she does bait her own hook!

  5. Good to see that the fishing rod is working great! When my daughter was really young (3-4 years old) she had a little pink fishing pole. And it was a lucky pole - she caught lots of fish with it. Sadly, we lost it one day when it fell into a lake.

  6. There is a great degree of knowing where and when to fish. Good rod, it support a good day of catching fish. but the skill is what matters.
