Estate Sale Finds Sept. 28, 2015

First off, Happy Birthday to my Dad - I hope you have a great day.   Love you!!

On Thursday morning my husband was running some errands and called me to tell me there was an estate sale a couple of blocks away.  To which I replied, "I'm not going to any sales for awhile.  Stop tempting me."

I hung up the phone and decided I needed to go get a haircut.  It's not my fault that I had to drive right past the estate sale to get to the salon.  But I was quite proud of myself and feeling all smug because I just looked at the house and kept on driving.  It wasn't easy.

While I was getting my hair cut I could hear my phone beeping in my purse.  When I checked it, this is what Louie wrote, "Come home and get me before you stop at that estate sale."   I guess I was busted.  LOL.

When I pulled down our street Louie was standing outside waiting for me.  He is such a trouble maker.

We weren't even halfway up the driveway at the sale and I spotted the vintage trunk sitting in the garage.   It had a price tag on it of a dollar.  One dollar......  It drew me like a fricking magnet.

It was really clean and still had it's inner paper lining.....

I went to move it and the leather handle literally disintegrated in my hand and fell off.  Ooops.  I kind of shook my head, but my stupid hand wouldn't let go of the trunk.  Look, it still had its tray and everything....

The outside was really sticky for some reason, but it had it's keys and both the latches worked....

I actually told the guy I'd think about it and walked away to look at some screwdrivers, while I'm thinking to myself "It's just a buck!  You idiot, take it."  Then the guy sucked me right in by saying, "Ok, but some other lady was just looking at it too."  Crap!

I usually don't fall for such nonsense, but  let's face it, that trunk was going home with me no matter what I said or did anyway, right?  I pulled a dollar out of my pocket and handed it to him.   I'm so weak.  As you can see, the truck is now on my deck and has been thoroughly cleaned.  Louie helped me get the pieces of old leather handles off and I'm making some new ones.  I even put the first coat of white paint on it.  Hopefully I'll have time to work on it some more this week.  Ha!  Who am I kidding??  Of course I'll find time to work on it.  This one is going to be white and gray, with maps decoupaged inside.  I am such a sucker for trunks.  I love re-doing them.  I sold the last one I did for
$ 125.00 and that one wasn't as large as this one and it didn't have its tray.  This one would make such a nice coffee table, don't you think?

I was so giddy about the trunk that I kind of walked thru the rest of the house in a stupor.  I picked up a few more items to sell in my shop like this Pyrex glass coffee pot....

This red handled fork...

And a vintage pencil holder   sharpener.   LOL - Wrote the wrong thing and my Dad called me on it.  See comments below.

I also spied this super cute corduroy jean jacket that fits me perfectly.  I'll be keeping that for myself.

What did you find this weekend?

  2. As a Vintage person, I have to correct the pencil holder. It is actually a pencil sharpener. Kids now a days won't even know what a pencil is, or experience chewing the eraser off.

  3. A dollar? Yeah, that's a good deal! And kids near me know what pencils are-- you should see the school supply lists. 60 pencils!! Sharpened too!

  6. Your dad is right, of course -- and happy birthday to him! -- but more than a pencil sharpener, it was an excuse in my day to get out of your seat at school and walk around the classroom going up to the front to sharpen the pencil you maybe broke on purpose, lol. We didn't get out of those seats much otherwise! Love the trunk, and especially love that Louie encourages you in what you love. He is not only good looking, he is a treasure in other ways, too.

  7. That truck was a wonderful find! I still have my Dad's Navy locker in it's rustic, (shabby) state ... fraying leather handles and all. Yes, we're using it as a coffee table! Love your idea of lining the inside with olden maps. :)

Ah, ha, ha your dad is funny...or jokey as we like to say! Gross, what kids ate the erasers off of pencils? Hungry kids I guess! ;)
