Geocaching - April 2015

I can't believe how far behind I am on some of my geocaching posts.  Last month my mom and dad were in Kentucky with us and we decided to do a road trip down to Paris, Tennessee and grab some geocaches along the way.  We found some good ones....

Troublesome Truck  took us to a great, out of the way park in Murray, Kentucky.  I had no idea this wonderful park was here.  The cache was hidden someplace on this caboose...

We had a lot of fun climbing over and under it looking for the cache.

Dad finally figured out where it was hidden.  All aboard!!

Also at the park was this little preserved school house....

I like it when we stumble upon little historic gems like this...

The next cache was Now That is a Load of Bull  and was hidden near this fun photo op!

Cowboy Up was placed as a memorial for a real life cowboy who unfortunately passed away too soon due to a car accident.  You can go to the cache page to read the story of Chris Young...

We crossed over into Tennessee....

Audrey's Cache kept us on our toes because 3 dogs kept coming over and trying to get to us.  They made me a little nervous because I didn't know if they were wild dogs or not.  I was glad that we made quick work of this cache and got out of there fast...

My favorite cache of the day was Mash Cache.   We've been to Paris Landing, Tennessee many times and had no idea this place was here...

In the front yard was this vintage helicopter....

Mom found the cache while the rest of us checked out the chopper...

Now here is the really awesome thing about this cache location - it was in front of an antique store that was filled to the rafters with treasures!

This place was filled like I have never in my life seen a place loaded with junk...

The aisles were literally less than 2 feet wide in most places.  I was constantly afraid I was going to knock something over...

There were 4 buildings in all...

By the time I got to the last one there was so much stuff crammed into it that you couldn't even get into it to look at stuff....

Can you believe this???

It was awesome!  I could have spent all day there.  Chablis and I plan to go back one day when we really have some time to dig through everything.....

Next we stopped at the Paris Landing Marina to just walk around. Check out the giant measuring stick.  The lower water line is Summer Pool, and is the water level for most of the summer for Kentucky Lake.  The top of the stick is the water level for the top of the dam and is where the water level almost reached a couple years ago when we had some severe flooding.  Looking at that just blows my mind!

Tyler's Lucky Charms was our last cache of the day and took us down this pretty trail...

We ended up going 12 caches in 2 states for the day, plus got to check out a helicopter and dig through a junk store.  I'd say that was a pretty good day!

  3. You always visit the most interesting places! I'm surprised you didn't bring home any treasures from the big antique place.

  4. What a jam-packed day to spend doing what you love with those you love!

I adore finding random antique shops, but I'm afraid that one would give me a serious case of claustrophobia!

  7. Wow, I just found this post! The others are right -- your family does the most interesting stuff and takes the most fun side trips of anyone I've ever known! I can't even get myself to the post office, much less down the side roads of adventure, lol. :)
