Awesome Shellin' Sistah!

On February 17th, my sweet friend Karen, over at The Essential Beachcomber Blog, joined the crowd of 700 Sanibel Shell lovers to set a new Guinness World Record for the Sanibel Stoop.  I could tell you all about it, but I'd never do it justice.  Take the time to go over to Karen's Blog and read her wonderful account of this historic event.  All I can say is, "I wish I had been there."

Karen knew how bad I felt about missing the festivities.  So, a couple of days ago I received an unexpected package in the mail from her.   Inside was a commemorative edition of the 75th Anniversary Sanibel Shell Fair & Show Magazine....

Believe me when I say I sat down and read the entire thing, word for word, cover to cover, in one sitting.  Inside were some interesting articles about the history of the Shell Fair, a brief history of the Islands, information on the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum, schedules for the upcoming events for the Fair, and a beautiful 2 page color spread of Sanibel Shells.  Since this was the 75th Anniversary of the Shell Fair, this magazine is a true keepsake!

Karen also sent me one of the anniversary shell necklaces.....

The chain is made up of dozens of tiny shells and the large Cowrie is lettered with "75th Sanibel Shellabration."  I'm going to hang it up in my office with my other Sanibel Island treasures.

Thanks again Karen for sending me a little piece of Sanibel and the Shell Fair.  I really hope I can make it there one day to experience in person - hopefully with you and Shellbelle.   Shellin' Sistah's are the best!!
