A couple of my recycled cutting boards were recently featured by Michelle over at Recycle Nation. How fun is that?
I thought it was kind of cool and I just wanted to share that with you.
Go over and take a look if you want. Thanks!

Estate Sale Finds 3-16-15
This week was slow again for sales but we did manage to pick up a couple of things. I'm always grabbing paint brushes because I can never have too many of them and the vintage coffee container is in excellent condition. I wish the rest of the set would have been there as well...
A Levi's jean jacket - it's too large for Chablis (remember she grabbed my other one a couple of weeks ago?) so this one is being washed and will go up for sale this week.
A couple of vintage fitted sheets and some pillow cases. I may keep the blue ones for the lake house - they are so pretty. I've never bought and sold them before but other people seem to do good with those so I thought I'd give it a try...
These were my favorite find of the week - vintage angora gloves. LOVE them and they still had the original tag holding them together, so they were never used. Who would own these and not use them? Did I mention that I love them? Unfortunately it's already too warm to wear them any more this winter, but I'll be putting them away for myself for next year.
This owl cutting board is huge and super thick. All it needs is a good sanding, a little coffee ground staining and a good rub down with some coconut oil and it will be gorgeous. I may keep that one to use when I'm pounding silverware for lettering. The grater is headed to my shop and the spoon was a fab find - sterling silver! I got it for a quarter. I want to stamp something on it using my new letter stamps, but I haven't decided what yet. It The basket I got for free because the woman at the estate sale didn't have any bags so she just threw a bunch of my stuff into it for me to carry.
And 3 small bags of vintage glass ornaments. Some of them are really pretty and there were a bunch of plastic ornaments tossed in as well. I don't much care for plastic ornaments. Does anyone know if they will sell? The glass ones will be headed to my shop.
And that's it for this week. Be sure to come back tomorrow so you can see what I did with the chest we picked up last week. All I can say is AWESOME!!!

My Repurposed Failure
I don't know about you, but sometimes the ideas I come up with in my head don't turn out the way I'm picturing them - Do you know what I mean? Case in point... Over the weekend I bought a couple of wooden cutting boards at an estate sale with lofty repurposing dreams floating around in my head.
I took the 2 boards that I found here and sanded them clean of all the paint. I especially liked the large round one because it's super heavy and sturdy. After I washed it really good and let it dry in the sun for a few hours I brought it into the house, excited to start on my project. It cleaned up nice, didn't it?
First I grabbed the bacon press that I found a couple of weeks ago at an estate sale. It's the cutest thing with a pig on it....
Then I placed it into one of my cast iron pans and cranked up the heat until that baby was smoking. And no, I was not makin' bacon under there either, altho a BLT sounds good right about now. Hmmm, crisp apple smoked bacon, juicy ripe tomato, crisp green lettuce on 2 slices of toasted sourdough bread, slathered with mayo..... Sorry, I digress. Anyway....
I had the brainy idea that I was going to burn the pig image onto the wooden board using it like a branding iron. I mean, that would be pretty cool looking, wouldn't it?
I pushed down on that bacon press with all my strength and then let it sit on the cutting board for about 5 minutes. My husband kept lurking around in the background, telling me that this wasn't going to work. He was like a 3 year old because he kept asking me to lift the press and see what happened. Finally I lifted it, and lo and behold..... nothing.... nada..... not a single burn mark. I think my husband may have smirked.
I was not to be deterred however, so I took the bacon press, placed it directly onto the burner and really fired that thing up. I mean, the heat was rolling off of it. Once it was good and hot I put it on top of the cutting board and tried again.
This is what I got for my efforts. Kind of disappointing, huh? I think Louie felt bad for me because he came over and showed me how the pig design doesn't protrude out as far as the outer edge of the bacon press does, and it was preventing it from making good contact on the board. I really, really hate it when he's right.
So that's my latest repurposed failure and I'm back to square one. I still want that piggy design on that board. I'm headed over to go search Pinterest to find a way to transfer the design and then maybe I can just burn it with my wood burning tool. I'm thinking maybe with wax paper and a pencil. I don't know. If you know how to transfer stuff like that, give me a tip, would ya?
What ideas have you had that didn't work out?

Estate Sale Finds - May 4
I am such a sucker for estate sales - I cannot pass one by. You just never know what treasures you are going to find. Here's last week ends haul.
I have always liked and wanted a vintage Coleman cooler. We were in the basement at a sale and this one was shoved up on a shelf in a back room. I made Louie pull it down. I almost wanted to dance when I saw the excellent condition it was in and it had the original inner compartment pieces. It didn't have a price tag on it and I practically held my breath when I asked if they would be interested in selling it. We negotiated down to $ 8.00 and I was thrilled to get it. No ecstatic is more like it!
Then, we walked into a church rummage sale where co-incidentally my kids had gone to pre-school. Chablis was with us and asked if we could go up to the pre-school room so she could take a look around. The pre-school area was filled with racks of clothes for sale, and on a corner table sat this stunning Coleman 2 quart thermos - also in excellent condition and red on top of it. I snapped it up and since it was for the church, I didn't even try to dicker down from the asking price of $ 2.50. What a fab set and we can use them at the lake and Chablis can also use them as props for photo shoots for her BeeAnn Designs items. Score!!
Chablis picked up all 3 of these crates at the same sale. We love the ones that have graphics and original text on them. She has plans to turn one into a rolling storage box. More to come on that in a later post. Love the one that says Salted Peanuts.
And we picked up a bunch of small items as well. A Farm Fresh spoon holder that I don't think had ever been used, and a beautiful yellow spatula, also brand new. I picked up an assortment of wooden spoons, with plans to use my wood burning tool on them. I also bought that ugly cutting board with the horrid graphic on it. I'll be taking my sander to that really soon and repurposing it. More to come on that later as well. I also got a cool sewing machine tin that says Zig Zag on it. Beautiful green color and do not make the same mistake I made and put it in the dishwasher to clean it up. OMG - the color faded and I was so mad about that. What the heck was I thinking?? I also got a nice set of Corning ware bake pans - one 8" square pan and one a loaf pan, both of which promptly went to the lake house.
Chablis picked up a brand new seat cushion for a chair she is re-doing, although it reeked of something so we threw it in the washing machine and set it outside to dry for 2 days and now it's fine. And check out the cool advertising coat hangers. We found them in a box marked free and snatched them up. Two of them are from Hilton Hotels and one is from the United Hotel chain.
My mind is reeling with re-purposing projects, so I know I'll have lots to share with you soon.
