Hand Made Towel Bar

Last weekend I found a couple of goodies at some garage sales and had an idea for something else to hang in my kitchen.  If you remember I picked up this enamelware dipper and a black pie tin....

I went out to the garage, found a piece of wood and roughed it up a bit with both ends of a hammer.  I did this a couple of weeks ago on another project I did and I find that it's quite satisfying to beat the heck out of a piece of wood.  LOL!

I slapped on a coat of Honey colored stain and quickly wiped it off with a rag....

Then I attached the pie tin and dipper with screws and that was it.  I hung it up on the wall and as an after-thought I added two cup hooks so I can hang a towel and an apron from it....

Instant towel bar - What do you think?  What have you made this week?

  2. Like the vintage-y look. Way back in the 70s my mom made decoupaged plaques and had my sister and I beat up the wood with different tools. You're right-- it is fun.

  6. That is so neat, Kim!
So, I just took a second, up-CLOSE look at the pie tin and had to smile. Have you ever eaten lutefisk? I'm unsure which one of my parents felt obligated to observe their heritage by attending lutefisk suppers each year -- and it's been 50+ years since I tasted it .....but I still grimace.

    1. Ha - it's funny you should mention that. I was wondering what the writing on that meant because the only word I recognized was smorgasbord. What language is that?
