Sanibel Island 2013 Edison Estate Part 2

I've been slowly recapping our recent visit to Sanibel Island and I left off on Monday with our visit to the Edison & Ford Winter Estates.  Go here to read the first part of the Edison post and then scroll back further in the week for our daily Sanibel recaps.

Check out this fabulous porch!  I'm in love with the cool mint color...

Edison's Laboratory and Office....

The Caretaker's Cottage....

Views of the harbor....

Henry Ford was a good friend, business partner and frequent guest at Seminole Lodge.  He enjoyed the area so much that eventually he purchased the estate right next door....

If you visit the Edison & Ford Winter Estates, and I highly suggest that you do if you're in the Ft. Myers area, be sure to allow several hours to fully explore and enjoy the property.  We spent about
3 hours there and we never made it to the museum. I was highly disappointed in that, but we just ran out of time and had to go grab something to eat and get to the airport.  I know that at some point I will be back to further explore this great place.  If you like history, beautiful homes, plants and museums, then this is the place for you!

Tomorrow will be my Sanibel Island wrap up and I'm featuring some fantastic photos taken by Chablis.  Be sure to come back and check them out.

  1. I will definitely put this on my wish list of places to visit. When I go to the beach...all I want to do is WALK on the beach! heehee! But hubby always finds places like this to visit and I'm glad he does. (as long as I can walk on the beach before I go! heehee) HUGS!

    1. That's always MY dilemma - I just want to stay on the beach. But it worked out well since we were on our way to the airport anyway. xo

  4. I can see how it must have been frustrating to leave without completing the visit, this place is AMAZING! I would have loved to see more of Edison's lab... I had no idea he and Ford were friends!

Great series of posts Kim! It's pretty clear how much you guys love the place, and with good reason! ;o)
